The Goliad Zone Tuesday, April 8, 2025 There is no quit in Florida. The Gators had just enough left in the tank to finish the season on the ultimate high note, taking down a game Houston Cougars squad 65-63. It was a fitting conclusion to likely the most competitive Big Dance ever. Five VST teams picked Florida to win it all - Matthew Wheeler's SpartanHornz, Jerry Wheeler's Lobos, The Mighty Goliads, Bob Svendsen's Svens and Tom Daulton's Knowspickers. The top 4 of those finished in the money...SpartanHornz with an astounding 104, Lobos with 99, Goliads with 98 and the Svens with 93. All of those final scores were better than Bill Bancroft's 2007 record of 92. All 4 Money teams tied the mark for best Final Four weekend score. The Records Page has been updated. Sadly, Lisa Ellsworth's Loons took sole ownership of the Caboose some time ago, and never found a reason to depart. Beyond the top 4, this year's Above-the-Rim performers included the Knowspickers, Bill Bancroft's Willies, Norma Mitchell's Wise Ones, Bill Peavy's Nickleknobs and Bernie McLaughlin's Zazoos.
